Carlton Apache 2518 Gas Catalytic Converter Rebuild
The Carlton Apache 2518 is an 18-inch capacity drum chipper with a 25-inch by 18-inch infeed opening, built for whole-tree chipping and high-production use. The gas-engine 2518 runs a Ford liquid-cooled V8 at 165 HP with a three-way catalytic converter. The aggressive duty cycle of a large drum chipper accelerates catalyst wear. New England Supply House rebuilds these through our core-exchange program.

Why Catalytic Converters Fail on This Machine
The Ford 6.2L is a proven industrial engine, but wood chipping duty pushes it hard. Continuous wide-open-throttle operation generates sustained exhaust heat that degrades the catalyst substrate over thousands of operating hours. Like other port-injected V8s, the 6.2L can develop valve seal wear over time, introducing oil ash into the exhaust stream. Oil-contaminated three-way catalysts lose conversion efficiency progressively — performance drops and fault codes appear — and cannot be cleaned back to spec. A rebuild is the only reliable solution.
What’s Included in the Rebuild
- Full disassembly and inspection of the catalyst housing and substrate
- New catalyst substrate installed to OEM specifications
- Reassembly using your existing housing (core exchange — your housing returns to you)
- Performance verification before return shipping
- Warranty against manufacturing defects
How Core Exchange Works
- Call or submit the fitment check form — we confirm your machine’s engine and emissions configuration before you ship anything.
- Remove your catalytic converter and ship the core to us with tracking and insurance. Ship to: New England Supply House, 14 Pinto Way, Mansfield, MA 02048
- We rebuild and return your core within 3–5 business days.
