The Vermeer BC1800XL is one of Vermeer's most popular professional brush chippers, with an 18-inch capacity and class-leading infeed table. Diesel models run either a John Deere 4045 (173 HP) or Cummins F3.8 (134 HP) Tier 4 Final engine with DOC/DPF aftertreatment. Hard chipping duty degrades these emissions systems significantly over time. New England Supply House rebuilds them through our core-exchange program.

Why Catalytic Converters Fail on This Machine
John Deere Tier 4 Final engines use an integrated exhaust filter (IEF) combining DOC and DPF functions. The system is designed for continuous-duty applications, not the stop-start cycle of a brush chipper. Frequent cold starts and short run times prevent the filter from reaching passive regen temperature, leading to progressive soot loading. When the filter plugs, backpressure codes appear and chipping performance drops. Ash loading from normal oil consumption also contributes to filter plugging over time.
