The Carrier HN52TC040 is a contactor, an electrically operated switch that connects line voltage to the compressor and fan motor in HVAC equipment such as an air conditioner or heat pump condensing unit. When the thermostat calls for operation, the low-voltage coil pulls in the contacts and powers the unit; when the call ends, the contacts drop out.
